New music department for the Godolphin and Latymer School which was shortlisted for an RIBA Award in 2009.
The school acquired the adjacent church site and this building is part of a long term development plan which will eventually see the church and vicarage linked to the existing school buildings under one roof. Set between mature plane trees and the Grade 2* listed William Butterfield church, the music school is a modern two storey building, flat roofed to maintain a low profile and with a glazed atrium running the length of the church to provide a full but delicate connection between the two buildings. It has an acoustically attenuated system of passive ventilation throughout to avoid the use of air conditioning. The design of the full development plan for this sensitive and tight urban site was fully supported from the outset by the local planning department and English Heritage (now Historic England). This £4million project was undertaken in collaboration with The Manser Practice.
